August 20th-22nd was the weekend celebration of our chapter’s 70 charter day and we held events on each day celebrating the grand occasion.

On Friday, the brothers flooded all social media platforms with posts about our charter day and fellowshipped at Garfield’s in Greenville, MS that evening.

The brothers held a wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesite of Brother Frederick H. Miller, one of our chapter’s charter members and the Fraternity’s 3rd General President. It was held at Mound Bayou’s St. Gabriel Church. Afterward, we had our first “Live on LeFlore” Block Party in collaboration with Delta State University’s Office of Student Affairs where Dr. Howard E. Lovin serves as Vice President. Students received coupons from Cleveland’s Sonic Drive-Thru, Domino’s Pizza, and Soror Pamela Chatman donated facemasks and hand sanitizer. There was also a stroll-off between the Greek organizations and students participated in games for prizes.

Sunday’s worship experience was the climax of the weekend as the brothers and community members congregated at the Greater New Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, MS where Rev. Randolph Seals, Jr. serves as Pastor. Brother President Hill gave an encouraging word entitled “So Let’s Talk About Better Days!” and it was an encouragement for all to maintain their faith despite life’s hardships. Other Divine Nine and community organizations were recognized while the brothers were given medallions produced by Cleveland Trophy Awards & Gifts that commemorated the 70th charter day. Also, Mr. Chester Henderson was recognized as the first Samuel L. Blackburn Education Foundation Servant Award recipient.
