This weekend, our Chapter held its 26th annual oratorical contest at Emmet Harty Park in Greenville, MS and it was a great event! Community members were drawn by the display of our Chapter and we provided snacks for those who attended. The theme for this year was “How to Continue the Dream During Tough Times” and our contestant, Ms. Jemia Walker from Clarksdale High School, did an EXCEPTIONAL oration of her speech without a document or device. At the end of the event, she was awarded beyond her expectation with a scholarship of $1,500.00! Her parents, Mr. Patrick and Mrs. Pamela Walker, and younger sister accompanied Jemia to support her during the event and they too were amazed at her performance. Jemia will receive her finances upon submitting a copy of her enrollment at the college of her choice. Jemia’s goals are to become a mathematics professor as well as receive a doctoral degree in mathematics.
